Introducing a Home for DevOps and UI/UX in Project Simple

Reading time 3 min

Most software development platforms start with the same assumption: give teams a generic set of building blocks and let them configure the process themselves.

Create your issue types. Configure your workflows. Add custom fields. Build dashboards. Install plugins. Decide what everything means.

Then repeat the exercise for every team that works differently.

At Project Simple, we continue to take the opposite approach. Software product development isn’t new. The disciplines involved aren’t new either. Teams shouldn’t have to design a management system before they can manage their work.

That’s why we’re introducing two new purpose-built team types in Project Simple: DevOps and UI/UX.

They join our Engineering team model with workflows designed around how these teams actually operate — available out of the box, with no process configuration required.

DevOps Isn’t Just Another Dev Team

DevOps teams have always been awkwardly represented in traditional development management tools.

They may write code and perform system-level development, but their responsibilities extend far beyond feature delivery. They are concerned with stability, resilience, scalability, infrastructure, security, operational health, and keeping development teams moving.

Their workload is different too.

A DevOps team can be working on planned strategic initiatives while simultaneously responding to immediate engineering needs and urgent operational issues. Treating all of that like a standard development backlog hides the very thing organizations need to understand: where DevOps capacity is going.

Project Simple now provides a DevOps management process designed specifically around that reality.

Teams can see their workload, understand priorities, manage planned and tactical work, and clearly see what’s completed, what’s in progress, and what’s remaining.

The process and analytics reflect DevOps work instead of forcing DevOps teams to pretend they are just another development team.

No workflow design. No custom configuration. No process consultant required.

Create a DevOps team and start working. DevOps planning has never been easier.

UI/UX Has Been Sitting Outside the Process for Too Long

UI/UX has a different problem.

It may be one of the least represented disciplines in software product management platforms.

In many organizations, UI/UX exists somewhere alongside the engineering process rather than inside it. Design work lives in separate tools, requests happen through conversations, priorities aren’t always visible, and development teams can find themselves waiting for UI/UX help without understanding where their request sits relative to everything else.

That creates unnecessary dependencies, prioritization problems, and delays.

So we gave UI/UX its own first-class team model in Project Simple.

UI/UX work can now be planned, prioritized, tracked, and made visible alongside the rest of product development. Teams can see what UI/UX is working on, what’s coming next, and how design work connects to the broader delivery process.

No more wondering when UI/UX help is coming.

No more invisible queues.

No more prioritization snafus caused by work living outside the delivery process.

Instead, Product, UI/UX, Engineering, and DevOps can collaborate as part of one transparent product development system.

That makes user-experience-driven product development much easier to actually practice.

One Product. Different Disciplines. One View of Delivery.

This becomes especially important as products and organizations grow.

A single initiative may require work across multiple Engineering teams, UI/UX, and DevOps. Each team has its own responsibilities, workflow, priorities, and measures of progress.

Management still needs to answer some very simple questions:

What are we working on? Where is the work happening? What’s done? What’s remaining? What’s getting in the way?

Project Simple allows each discipline to work within a process designed for its needs while maintaining transparent visibility across the entire initiative.

Engineering doesn’t have to work like DevOps.

DevOps doesn’t have to pretend to be Engineering.

UI/UX doesn’t have to sit outside the process.

And nobody has to spend weeks configuring a platform to make that happen.

No Configuration Still Means No Configuration

Adding more team types could easily become another excuse to add more configuration.

We chose the opposite direction.

Our philosophy remains simple: the software should understand how modern product organizations work so teams don’t have to teach the software.

Select the team type. Project Simple provides the process, terminology, workflow, and analytics designed for that discipline.

Then get to work.

Engineering. UI/UX. DevOps.

Different disciplines working together on the same product, with clear ownership, appropriate processes, and shared visibility from planning through delivery.

That’s another step toward making software delivery simple.

New to Project Simple?

We’re here to solve the biggest pains in Product and Software Development that have been left ignored by the current project management systems.

Because Jira and others were built to track work. But Project Simple was built to understand it – exposing friction, aligning effort, and substituting complexity with simplicity.
